Planning a move and having months to pack is already a huge task in itself. If you have found yourself looking to move in less than a week, well, that's a bigger obstacle. You may think it's impossible to pack and move all of your belongings in your home within a few days, but with our help and a strong mindset, you can move out of your home quickly!

Step 1) Begin packing immediately

Start by packing the most challenging room in your house, which is most likely your kitchen or basement. These rooms tend to have a lot of separate household items that require more time to pack than other rooms. Don't procrastinate on packing, as it often takes longer than you anticipated!

Create a keep, throw away, and donate pile for each room

The less stuff you have, the less time your move will take. Don't be afraid to get rid of items that are no longer needed. If you haven't used the item in over a year, you can probably live without it! If you know where you are moving to next, think about how much space your new home will have. Make sure to downsize accordingly so you aren't stuck moving with objects you don't have space for!

Pack one room at a time

When you are in a time crunch, it's easier to organize and pack all of your items in one room at a time. This way, your moving boxes will be full and organized according to each room and will make unpacking a smoother process.

Step 2) Consider renting a storage unit

If you are moving quickly and don't have enough time to arrange for a new apartment or house, rent a storage unit to temporarily place your belongings in. Storage facilities offer month-to-month contracts so you can buy yourself more time on making big decisions on what you will do after packing.

Step 3) Pack your essentials into a suitcase

Gather a week or so worth of outfits, necessary toiletry items, a pair of shoes, and any other items you use daily. This way, you won't accidentally store away items you use every day. It can be difficult and time-consuming to have to open up storage boxes that have been taped shut, so leave out the essentials!

Step 4) Hire a moving company

If you can afford to do so, hiring a moving company will save you time when it comes to moving heavy objects. Moving furniture, appliances, and other large items can be especially challenging if you live alone and can't find any help.

Renting a moving truck will be cheaper than hiring a moving company. If you are packing your items into a storage unit, make sure to ask your storage provider if they have moving trucks available! This will save you a lot of money, especially if you can get your friends and family to help move your belongings out of your home and into a unit.

Even though this is a stressful time in your life, don't be afraid to ask for help. Moving quickly is very possible and we hope you were able to apply some of these useful tips for your new transition.
